A TEENAGER who saved a pensioner’s life during an epileptic fit said it was a nerve-wracking experience.

Queens College student Will Taylor was walking through Vivary Park in Taunton when he noticed a man shaking violently on the ground next to his wheelchair.

When the 16-year-old approached the elderly man, he said a disabled woman was also at the scene trying to help but her speech impediment made it difficult for staff on the end of the 999 call to understand her.

He said: “I saw a guy lying on the ground – he was frantically shaking and bleeding from his mouth so I put him in the recovery position because I thought he could have choked and died.

“He seemed to be breathing ok so I called 999 and waited for the ambulance to arrive.

“I was worried because he was shaking a lot and I have never seen anyone look like that before.

Will had recently taken part in a first aid class at his school and urged others to go on a course or brush up on their skills in case they are put in a similar position.

He said: “It is the first time I have had to put it into practice but you would be surprised how much it comes in handy.

“You can always save someone’s life and you never know when it could be needed.

The man is believed to have made a full recovery after being treated at Musgrove Park Hospital.
