HUNDREDS of happy faces could be seen around Dunster last weekend during the Big Summer Event, which raised more than £1,200.

The event, organised by the Friends of Dunster First School, featured a traditional summer fete in the village gardens in the afternoon, followed by a variety show at the Tithe Barn in the evening.

The fete included stalls, a ‘beat the goalie’ competition, face and nail painting, bric-a-brac stall, teas and cakes, a barbecue, bouncy castle and much more.

One of the most popular attractions was the village stocks, where children and adults had the chance to throw wet sponges at volunteers, including head teacher Peter Hoyland and year four teacher Paul James.

Peter Lancaster, fete organiser and vice-chairman of the Friends of Dunster First School, said: “It was a wonderful afternoon with everyone enjoying the opportunity to get outside and have a go at a wonderful variety of games and activities.

“I would like to thank everyone who came along to help with or support the fete.”

During the two-hour variety show later, 16 acts entertained an audience of more than 170 parents, carers, children and members of the community.

The acts included the Dunster All Stars Children’s Choir, a diabolo display, a dance from the ALA and Co. dancers, some instrumental and acoustic sets and a performance by the Spice Dads.

The variety show was followed by live music from Roadwater’s hardest working dads’ band, Daddy Wrong Legs.

Head teacher Peter Hoyland said: “The variety show was a tremendous success. It was lovely to see so many present and past pupils, parents, members of the local community and staff take to the stage and put on such a wonderful show.

“I would like to thank and congratulate all those who took part and in particular parent Susan Sly for her superb co-ordination of the evening.”
