VILLAGERS in Wootton Courtenay have been handed an early Christmas present.
New stage curtains at their village hall are expected to be in place by Christmas, thanks to a cash grant.
The new curtains, costing £1,800, will not only assist local drama group, Dunkery Players, who perform twice a year, but will also provide a back drop for meetings or talks held at the hall.
Peter Clapham, who spearheaded the application for the grant, said: "We are delighted to get a grant of £427 towards new stage curtains.
"We have already raised £1,350 through village events including fetes, raffles and concerts and this grant bridges the shortfall we had.
"We are now able to purchase and fit the curtains and hope to have them up in time for Christmas."
The grant has been awarded from the Somerset Community Chest Fund.
