TWO street markets have been held to boost trade among Taunton’s independent traders.

Markets offered independent shop owners the chance to have a stall at a reduced cost in the hope they could spread the word about their business without breaking the bank.

A group, Women’s Independence Network (WiN), was formed just over one month ago to bring together ideas of traders and improve Taunton’ shopping experience along with raising money to bring back the bells at St Mary Magdalene Church.

Lucinda Ackland, who helped to set up the group, said: “A fun day was had by all and the market was full of local traders and smiles.

“Goodie bags were given out by bell ringers and stall holders which were full of local independent retailer’s flyers, vouchers and business cards to promote their services even if they were not able to man a stall.

“Markets promote the whole town and hope to bring back community spirit and the heart beat of Taunton keeping independents and local shoppers in harmony.”
