READING, writing and arithmetic attainments at Danesfield Middle School, Williton have been recognised with a national quality mark for the second time.

Danesfield has been assessed under nine challenging categories by education authority assessors who have handed the school another Basic Skills Mark.

Head teacher Ian Bradbury said: "The school had to show that we actively monitor all pupils progress and involve parents in their pupil's education.

"Danesfield had to demonstrate that all staff are up to date with training and that the school sets itself targets to improve, ands that key staff monitor progress to improve pupil performance each year."

He added: "The Quality Mark shows that staff at Danesfield are successfully raising pupil attainment in the basic skills of reading, writing and arithmetic."

Paula Smythe, vice chairman of the school governors, paid tribute to all staff in the school and highlighted work done by Gregg Mockridge, head of maths, who also coordinates the basic skills, programme, and Jane Burton, head of English.
