A TEAM of good Samaritans whose aim is to help people feel safe late at night in Taunton were given a prestigious award this week.
The Lord-Lieutenant of Somerset, Lady Gass, handed the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to the Taunton Street Pastors at County Hall on Monday evening.
The Taunton Street Pastors were launched in 2008 by local Christians unhappy at reports of late-night anti-social behaviour in the town centre.
Volunteers aged 21 to 80 patrol the town in teams every Saturday night and on other significant occasions, such as Taunton Carnival, offering a listening ear, care and practical help.
