A Taunton School has been awarded a top prize in the 2006 Best Family Learning Week Event Awards.

Halcon Primary School's Roll Play Family Bread Making' event won Best Event in a School, College or University Family during national Learning Week.

A representative from the school collected the award on Monday at a conference of delegates in London.

The activity held at Halcon Primary School took families through every stage of bread making, learning new skills along the way including planning the shopping list through to following the recipe, weighing and measuring the ingredients to discovering new vocabulary.

The families could then get involved in further bread making and family events to ensure the learning did not stop on the day.

Jenny Joslin, family advice and liaison worker at Halcon Primary School, was delighted to be recognised for their Family learning Week event.

She said: "We wanted to show families through our event that they have a vital role in their children's learning both at school and at home and make them feel welcomed and valued in the school environment.

"Parents, family members and carers all joined in our event showing it was as inclusive as we had hoped."

Richard Adams, head teacher, added: "To be selected as the Best Family Learning Week Event in a School is a fantastic achievement."
