HALCON Community School, in Taunton, has been awarded almost £38,000 to support vulnerable children.
It has won two grants from Taunton Deane Council’ housing revenue community development fund.
The school gets £20,505 to help co-ordinate activities, increasing the likelihood of identifying needs earlier and providing positive interventions that reduce safeguarding risks for children.
And it is being handed a further £17,420 to help address the needs that vulnerable children who present with special educational and or high levels of need.
Other grants under the same scheme include:
*Court Fields Community School, Wellington, £28,000 to develop mentoring for young people, including academic support and help to encourage self-confidence and belief.
•WHERE Centre, £20,000 to upgrade premises such as a new heating system, equipment and floor coverings to help and support new and younger members of the local community to get involved in the centre’s activities.
•North Taunton Partnership, £4,558 towards a programme of community activities involving 11 to 18-year-olds in Priorswood.
•MIND, Taunton and West Somerset, £7,961 to run an eco-therapy course in the most disadvantaged areas of East Taunton, North Taunton and Wellington helping participants take control and responsibility for their own health.
•Taunton Deane Council, £50,000 to commission services that facilitate a range of activities to be held in the authority’s meeting halls aimed at increasing the health and well-being of council tenants aged over 60.
