MEMBERS of Taunton Camera Club heard how David and Moira Dagger joined a cruise ship in Manaus, deep into the Amazon river and finished the journey in Antarctica four weeks later. Travelling down this immense river they witnessed the families who live in stilted shacks and survive on fishing. One of the delicacies is the flesh-eating piranha which David found quite tasty.

Having emerged from the long river trip, the ship turned southwards to visit some of the major cities along the coast of South America: Recife, Rio De Janeiro, Montevideo and Buenos Aires. Illustrated with a digital projector David told an amusing story of their experiences in these colourful cities. One highlight was touring the town in a string of bike taxis to the amusement of the locals.

A more sober experience was a visit to Stanley on the Falklands Islands, with its memories of the Conflict' of 20 years ago.

The final part of the holiday was a few days cruising the waters of Antarctica. David showed his photographic skills with his wonderful pictures of the docile penguins living among the icebergs that appear to have been sculptured by nature to make them look more beautiful.

It was a most entertaining evening and members responded to David's lecture with loud applause.
