A COMMUNITY radio station in Wiveliscombe joined an event held by the National Council for Voluntary Organisations by becoming the umbrella body's 5,000th member.
In order to mark the celebrations, a special event was held on Tuesday in Wiveliscombe, and 10Radio, which broadcasts to the tight knit Wiveliscombe community for one month a year, was presented with a special £500 donation by Julian Miller, managing director of class telecommunications.
Pauline Homeshaw, 10Radio presenter and chairman of Wiveliscombe Civic Society said: "Community radio is 10% radio and 90% community. The community involvement in 10Radio has been inspiring. Rural areas like Wiveliscombe have their own issues and problems and through 10Radio we believe we have given people a voice."
10Radio joined NCVO as a free community member, which gives them access to regular information and support, networking opportunities, discounted publications and cost savings on IT equipment.
Stuart Etherington, Chief Executive of NCVO said: "10Radio is already a force that underpins the community in Wiveliscombe. We hope that, by being an NCVO member, 10Radio will go from strength to strength, as a community organisation and as a voice for rural Somerset."
