A KIND-HEARTED eight-year-old from Taunton did more than her fair share for charity after donating 14 inches of hair to the Princess Trust.

Ella Woods, a pupil at Bishop Henderson School, was moved to make the generous donation after seeing a story about a little girl with no hair.

Mum Jo said: “She asked me what was wrong with the girl and why she had no hair so I explained that she was poorly and then Ella just turned to me and said mummy I want to donate my hair.”

Ella, who had grown her hair to her waist before having it cut off, said: “I was sad when I saw the little girl on TV with no hair and I had very long hair so I thought it would be nice for me to give some to them.

“I had to stand up in assembly and tell everyone what I was doing and they all clapped me and my teacher said it was a very good thing to do.

“I think the children who are going to have my hair will really like it and would say thank you to me.

“I think I would donate my hair in the future but I would have to grow it very long again.”

As well as donating her lovely long locks, Ella and her family and friends managed to raise £600 for the charity.

Jo added: “We had planned to donate seven inches of hair originally as that is the least you can donate and then we decided on ten inches but on the day Ella actually had 14 inches cut. I think she was surprised at how long her hair was.

“This was all her decision and for an eight-year-old she is extremely thoughtful ... she’s always thinking of others.

“I’m very proud of her.”
