AN electric racing car entered by Kingsmead School, Wiveliscombe, made a stunning debut in the first heats of the Greenpower Challenge at Merryfield Airfield, Ilminster on Saturday.
For the last few months, a team of Year 7 and 8 students have been building a single seater racing car during a Thursday lunchtime club.
The car’s lightweight design proved a great success and despite an early tyre wear issue, it was reliable in both races, culminating in the Best Newcomer award.
The team on the day consisted of Jack Brunning, Morgan Smith, Kurt Gilbert, Lucas Irvine, Torin Mills and Aiden Straton.
The car will continue to be developed to compete at future race meetings.
Jack Brunning said: "Great fun and fantastic to see our car drive so well in the races. I thought everyone drove brilliantly!"
