FIRE crews attended an incident at Fairfield Road in Taunton at around 1.54am on Sunday morning.
It had been reported that the porchway of a property was on fire.
On arrival the porch was well alight and had spread to the kitchen.
The cause of the fire was careless disposal of BBQ coals. The porch was severely damaged by fire, and there was severe heat and smoke damage to the kitchen and slight smoke damage to the rest of the first floor.
The fire was extinguished by crews wearing using breathing apparatus. Three fire engines from Taunton and a Command Support unit from Wiveliscombe attended this incident. The red cross Fire Victim support unit also attended and assisted in re-homing the family.
