A GREEN energy initiative has led to a total of £2,500 being handed out to community projects in Wiveliscombe.

The cash was generated from solar panels on two community buildings in the town owned by the Brendon Energy co-operative.

This year’s beneficiaries are High Park Community Music Project, £675 to buy saxophones; Wiveliscombe Pool, £900 towards a new awning for the poolside; Wivey Action on Climate, £365 for LED light bulbs to distribute to promote energy efficiency; In the Mix Youth Project, £315 to refurbish their facilities.

Also, a donation of £250 was made to UNICEF for its Syrian children emergency appeal Brendon Energy director Richard Brunning said: “It’s wonderful that as well as giving free electricity to the host buildings, the renewable energy production is also supporting these fantastic local projects.”

Brendon Energy is shortly launching its fourth share offer to raise £100,000 for new roof mounted solar arrays on community buildings in Taunton and Wellington.

Investors will become members of Brendon Energy Co-op and are expected to get a 5% annual return on their investment, or even more with EIS tax relief - for details click on the related link on this story.
