IT’S celebration time for pupils, staff, parents and governors at Wellesley Park Primary School after a Good grade in the latest Ofsted report.

It’s an achievement for the school, which was put in special measures after being graded inadequate in October 2012 before it became an academy in 2013.

Head teacher Lindsay Gabriel, who was appointed to turn things around, said the school had been on a real journey since the previous Ofsted report in October 2012.

She added: “We are extremely proud of our report and the grading we have achieved as a result of the hard work, enthusiasm and dedication of all staff, governors, parents and children. I would like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support and in particular my senior leadership team and our chair, clerk and governors.

Inspectors spent two days in the school, talking to pupils, observing lessons and hearing about life at Wellesley Park.

Their report highlighted Mrs Gabriel for working tirelessly and being aspirational for every pupil, with the number of children making more-than-expected progress and achieving the highest levels of attainment is above the national average.

The academy’s broad curriculum including French lessons, opportunities for learning outdoors, festival celebrations, and music and drama, enabled pupils to gain a broad range of experiences and flourish, the report added.

The early years teaching at Wellesley Park also received a particularly positive report with inspectors pointing to the highly effective teachers who have a high level of understanding about the early development of children.

Mrs Gabriel added: “The whole of the school has worked really hard.”
