CONSENT has been granted for pylons to be installed across swathes of Somerset countryside.
The pylons will run right across the Burnham area, with National Grid stating that the power lines from Hinkley to Avonmouth had to be upgraded as they had reached capacity and failure to increase the amount of electricity they could take would hit future development.
Bridgwater and West Somerset MP, Ian Liddell Grainger, said: “They wanted to run a new power line as the capacity levels of electricity from Hinkley C will be enormous.
“The under-sea option is too expensive so therefore the pylons will stay and be restrung secondly we get community benefits and thirdly we lose some pylons.
“We succeeded as they will rebuild the the Weston Zoyland sub-station.”
He said the new T-pylons which will be used were not bad looking.
