TO COINCIDE with the Queen’s birthday, the pupils of Crowcombe and Stogumber Primary Schools made surprise deliveries of over two hundred cakes to the residents of their villages.

Organised by their school council and staff, the children baked, decorated and packaged the cakes themselves before knocking on doors to give the cakes personally to members of their community.

For those out at work the gift was left on the doorstep for them to find at the end of their day!

The KS2 children baked the cakes for Crowcombe and prepared handmade boxes decorated with the Union Jack and a picture of the Queen with a little message for the villagers to share in a birthday cake with us to celebrate the Queen’s 90th Birthday.

The Early Years and KS1 children baked and boxed stunning cakes for the residents of Denes Close in Stogumber and delivered them.

The following day the schools were inundated with letters, emails, phone calls and cards saying how lovely it was to enjoy a birthday cake whilst watching the Queen on the television.

Headteacher Julie Norman, said: "The children brought so much joy to such a lot of people which I am sure they will never forget. It was a very warming to witness."

All the children were presented with a commemorative medal, from the Royal Mint, to celebrate the Queen’s birthday during a celebration assembly.

Minehead Middle School also celebrated the Queen's 90th with the children spending the afternoon outside on the field, playing music and pass the parcel, as well as taking part in a quiz and singing in honour of The Queen.
