A FORMER Somerset schoolgirl is well on the way to winning an Olympic medal.
Goalkeeper Maddie Hinch, 27, who hails from Keinton Mandeville and attended King's College, Taunton, has been in sparkling form for Team GB's women's hockey team.
The team has won all four of its games so far, qualifying for the quarter finals before even finishing their group games.
They have beaten Australia 2-1, India 3-0, Argentina 3-2 and Japan 2-0.
And they take on fellow 100 per centres the USA this evening (Saturday, August 13) at 10pm in the final group game.
One more win and Maddie would be guaranteed at least a bronze medal - both losing semi finalists get bronze.
But the squad are hoping to go all the way.
