STATION Road has reopened for the weekend during an important phase of works.
Contractors Carillion have been busily trying to install the new bridge, and hoped to have been finished today.
However, the work has been extended due to delays in lifting key components into place.
The bridge was removed earlier this year, so that a new one could be installed as part of the Northern Inner Distributor Road (NIDR) works.
Station Road has now reopened for the weekend, but it will close again to traffic on Monday (September 26) at 6am.
A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: “We are very disappointed that the contractor has not been able to complete the bridge works this week as planned because we know this will mean additional disruption.
“Please be aware of the road closure next week and plan your journey carefully.”
