THE result of the countywide poll on plans for a super council in Somerset is expected on Tuesday (June 19).
As reported, Somerset County Council wants to merge itself with the county's five district councils - Taunton Deane, West Somerset, South Somerset, Mendip and Sedgemoor.
The county council says the new unitary authority would save money, simplify the local government system, and avoid duplication.
But the district councils vehemently oppose the plan arguing Somerset is too big for just one authority and claim local representation would be affected.
They spent around £250,000 on a countywide ballot and the result is due to be announced at the Castle Hotel, Taunton, at 10am.
Visit this website on Tuesday to see the result, and don't miss Thursday's County Gazette for the full story.
