THE Princess Royal in Canon Street Taunton was nominated for a national community pub award after raising thousands of pounds.
The pub, run by Tim Prosser, supported national charity Spinal Research, and local charity the Selworthy Special School.
More than £7,500 was raised by the landlord and regulars over two years for the two charity, and it was shortlisted for the award in the week of January 17, 1997.
Mr Prosser said: "this is a great honour and we are delighted to be nominated.
"We are very much a family pub and hold a children's certificate. We have a play area at the back which gets great use in the summer months. A lot of changes have been made here and have had a very active 12 months.
"When I first came here three years ago we decided to have just two charities and concentrate our efforts on raising as much money as possible for them."
