Minehead WI

THE president, Norma Austin warmly welcomed members and guests and wished everyone a truly happy new year.

Two ladies who celebrate their birthdays in January were presented with posies and Norma thanked Judy Goodall for making them. Members were reminded about the deadline for the 2017 Resolution voting forms.

The Christmas lunch at the Northfield Hotel had been greatly enjoyed by all and Norma thanked Barbara Hughes for organising it.

Janet Manning gave a brief talk on Avoiding Food Waste, one of the WI’s current Resolutions.

The Book Club will meet in January to discuss ‘The Valley of Amazement’ and have a little party. A lunch is planned for January 24 and members were invited to see Barbara to discuss the venue. There will be no skittles meeting in January but the Amblers are planning a walk towards the end of the month.

After tea there was an excellent talk by Dawn Westcott from the Exmoor Pony Project. It was particularly interesting to learn all about the history and well-being of the ponies who are so close to Minehead.

The competition for an item from Avon was won by Coral Bagshaw with Pat Povey second and Norma Austin third. After the raffle was drawn Norma ended the meeting with some jokes and a funny story.
