A TOTAL of 16 council garages rented out to tenants could be bulldozed and replaced by two blocks of flats.
The Taunton Deane Borough Council development of one-bedroom affordable homes on the corner of Laxton Road and Blackbrook Road, in Taunton, is being considered by the authority's own planning committee on Wednesday.
Members are being recommended by officers to approve the scheme, which would consist of one three-storey block and one two- and three-storey building.
Concerns in ten letters of objection included loss of parking and more on-street parking, intrusiveness, an increase in traffic and fears of unsociable behaviour.
But an officer's report says the impact on neighbouring properties would not be harmful, while garage tenants would be offered replacements.
