A TAUNTON nursery is celebrating after receiving the highest Ofsted rating possible.

Wyvern Nursery at Wellsprings Leisure Centre received an "outstanding" rating during an inspection that took place on February 8.

The report was published on February 25 and showed that the nursery had been given the highest rating in all aspects, improving from a "good" rating after being inspected in May 2013.

Inspector Katherine Lamb said: The very inspirational manager has engaged staff exceptionally well since the last inspection. They provide children with excellent high-quality experiences, especially outdoors, where children complete risk assessments of the environment and explore.

"Staff provide an exceptional range of highly stimulating and challenging experiences that extend children's excellent progress across all areas of learning. For example, children very successfully investigate and experiment with natural resources, with excellent staff interaction to solve problems and work out how to build structures.

"Children's behaviour is very good. Children listen carefully to staff and learn to manage their feelings superbly. The extremely caring and attentive staff form very strong bonds with children and get to know them exceptionally well. Staff are excellent role models for children. They listen carefully to children, respect their views and highly value their opinions."

The report also praised the nursery for its partnership with the parents, stating that staff members ensure parents are fully involved and well informed.

One area the report highlighted that the nursery could improve on is helping the older children to use technology more to support their interests and learning.

Catriona Smith, principal of the nursery, said: "Another Early Years setting providing outstanding education within the Taunton area."
