TWO women have been taken to hospital following a crash on the A358.

The crash is described as "serious" and traffic is slow. 

The road was closed northbound to all traffic between Thornfalcon and Taunton after the crash between two cars near the Nags Head Tavern. 

A spokesman from South Western Ambulance Service said: "We were called to reports of a two car crash at 11.34am (March 10). 

"Two people were injured and have been taken to Musgrove Park Hospital.

"One person suffered a head injury and one person suffered a chest injury. 

"The injuries are not life threatening." 

Avon and Somerset Police has described the crash as "serious".

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue crews were called to the scene after one woman was stuck in the car. 

One engine from Wellington, one from Burnham-On-Sea and one from Somerton arrived at the scene. 

Crews set to work to release the woman using road rescue equipment to remove the drivers door. 

Crews made both vehicles safe and the casualty was left in the hands of the paramedics.

The road has now reopened. 

Lorries were being turned around at Ilminster. 

There are long delays heading towards Southfields roundabout.
