A TAUNTON woman is hoping you can help her win a garden makeover competition to create a sensory green space for her four-year-old grandson.

You've got until Sunday (April 23) to vote for Jill Denton in the MyBuilder.com Win a Grand for Your Garden competition.

The online marketplace for for homeowners to find quality tradesmen is attempting to find the UK’s worthiest winner of a garden makeover up to the value of £1,000 - including materials and a MyBuilder tradesman to complete the work.

Almost 500 homeowners from all over the UK have entered, telling MyBuilder what winning the prize would mean to them.

A total of 28,000 people have voted so far - and one story that stands out comes from Mrs Denton.

She said: "I have recently moved to Taunton to be nearer my family.

"One of my daughters has three boys. The youngest, who is now four, is autistic, non-verbal and has sensory processing disorder.

“I have taken over a terraced house that has been untouched since the 1980s and is currently undergoing a transformation with help from various tradesmen I have sourced through MyBuilder.

“The garden has been very neglected over the years, and although it is small, I very much want to turn it into a sensory garden for my grandson to enjoy, along with the rest of the family.

“I have made a start by removing the ugly overgrown shelter and old shed and am replacing this with a little summerhouse.

"This is as far as I have got. I'm not really sure where to start, and I really need help with careful design for this small space and specific type of garden and choice of plants etc.

“As I was doing some research the e-mail arrived from MyBuilder about this garden competition, and so I thought I would have a go.

"It would be so wonderful to have some input from people who actually know what they are doing to create this special garden for a very special child to enjoy with his brothers and cousin.”

The public has until midnight on Sunday (April 23) to cast their votes and determine the final shortlist.

MyBuilder chief executive and founder Ryan Notz said: “Britain is a nation famous for its gardens and gardeners, and we want to celebrate that heritage.

"In previous similar competitions, we saw how it changed lives for the better.

"We know how much it means to people to have an attractive, usable garden, so we’re proud to be able to help people achieve that dream again.”
