THE opening day of Somerset County Cricket Club's second XI match against Essex had to be abandoned after seagulls caused thousands of pounds worth of damage to the ground's cover sheets, leaving the pitch waterlogged.
The team was due to play Essex at Taunton Vale on Monday (August 21) but were forced to abandon the match due to the outfield being wet.
