STAFF and residents at a Taunton care home are celebrating after receiving a 'good' rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Inspectors from the CQC visited Moorhaven care home on July 20 and looked  at whether Moorhaven was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.

The care home, located on Normandy Drive, was awarded a ‘good’ rating in all areas in a CQC report published on August 15.

Whilst carrying out their inspection, the CQC spoke with residents of the care home and inspectors said they felt residents received safe care and had good support from staff.

An exerpt from the report said: “People benefitted from a staff team who understood their needs and had a good knowledge of their personal wishes and social histories.

"One person told us, ‘They know me well. Often they know what I want before I even ask. They are very good.’

"We heard staff complimenting people on their appearance and chatting to people about their friends and relatives.

"A number of people commented on how friendly all the staff were.

"One person said, ‘They are all so nice and friendly.’ Another person told us, ‘They are always chatty and friendly.’”

Inspectors were also impressed by the home's management and said they feel the service is well lead.

An exerpt from the report said: "One person said, 'She (the registered manager) comes round every morning so you can always have a word.

"If it's something more private you can go to the office. She has a very open door policy."

"The provider had systems in place to make sure people's views were sought and on-going improvements were made to the care people received and the facilities available to them.

Speaking after their CQC inspection, Lorraine Lock, manager of Moorhaven said: “I’m delighted to have been awarded a ‘Good’ rating overall from CQC.

"I would like to thank the staff team for all that they do to provide a high quality of care and support for the residents here at Moorhaven.”
