A PSYCHIATRIST will help a judge decide whether a woman accused of trying to murder a teenager at Taunton Station is fit to stand trial.

Ingrid MacKay is accused of attempting to murder a 17-year-old girl from Devon, who cannot be named for legal reasons.

She has also been charged with the malicious wounding of British Transport Police officer Ian Taylor on Platform 2 at the train station.

It is alleged that Miss MacKay, aged 59, of no fixed address, stabbed the two at around 4.45pm on Saturday, July 22.

She appeared via videolink at Taunton Crown Court this morning (Thursday, October 5) from Bronzefield Prison, in Ashford, Surrey.

Judge David Evans ordered a further psychiatric report and Harry Ahuja, defending, is expected to apply for a fitness to plea hearing at a later date.

Miss MacKay, who did not enter a plea to the charges, was remanded in custody until the next hearing on Friday, December 1.

A trial date was provisionally set for Monday, March 26, next year.
