I AM writing to comment further on your letter published in a recent edition, titled ‘Perfect Storm’.
I trained to become a staff nurse in the late ‘90s.
I was a single parent and it was possible to receive a student bursary.
My studies took place in Taunton and my practical placements were mainly based at Musgrove Park Hospital. I qualified in 1998.

Training is no longer an option in Taunton as a degree qualification is required and this will mean the shortest journey will be Bristol or Exeter.
This is not an option for a single parent and the bursary is no longer given.
This has made life virtually impossible and to be saddled with student debt on a capped 1 per cent wage rise.
Look after the people who care for you!
