FIREFIGHTERS tackled a huge blaze at a West Somerset beauty spot that was caused by fireworks. 

Four engines were sent to North Hill at around 5.30pm last night (Dec 20) to reports of a large fire. 

Many calls were made to report the fire to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue.

The fire service has confirmed that the cause was accidental, due to fireworks that had been set off in the area.

On arrival crews confirmed the fire was around 50 square metres.

The firefighters used compressed air foam to attempt to make a break in the fire. 

Around an hour later crews were making steady progress to extinguish the fire.
