MINEHEAD firefighters had a busy evening tackling two domestic fires last night (February 7).

At 8pm, the team was tasked to a fire involving wooden steps at the rear of a property in Glenmore Road.

On arrival at the scene the crew confirmed an external wooden staircase and household waste involved in the fire and quickly got to work to extinguish the blaze.

But no sooner had they sorted out one fire, the crew were called to Dunster Steep at just before 9pm to another incident.

This time a chimney fire involving a woodburner had broken out.

The woodburning stove was removed from the property and extinguished while other members of the team worked on putting out and making safe a wooden beam that had been damaged in the fire.

The crew left the scene just before 10pm after shoring up the chimney brest using building timber.
