ArtsTaunton founder and director Kit Chapman said: "Taunton is perfectly poised to take advantage of the experience that Create Streets has in helping communities and long-term investors develop exemplar schemes happen with our garden town status, vast new development and exciting opportunities such as Coal Orchard and Firepool as they move towards that all-important detailed planning stage.

"This is a great opportunity to hear how other communities have made this happen."

Planners hope to convert Coal Orchard Car Park and the now closed St James swimming pool area into a cultural hub, while Firepool could be home to apartments, shops, pubs and restaurants and leisure facilities.

Create Streets' mission is to make it easier to develop high density, beautiful, street-based economically and socially successful developments with strong local support and which residents will love for generations.
