EMERGENCY services were called to a property in Taunton last night after 'smoking materials' caused a fire.
The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service was called to Wilfred Road at around 6pm yesterday evening (April 26).
An ambulance arrived shortly after to treat a man for smoke inhalation.
The mattress was severely damaged in the fire.
A spokesman said: "Two fire appliances from Taunton attended a fire involving a mattress in a bedroom of a property.
"On arrival crews confirmed the fire extinguished, but one male was suffering with smoke inhalation.
"Fire crews administered first aid and an ambulance was called to the scene and paramedics treated the casualty.
"The fire was caused accidentally by smoking materials. The mattress was severely damaged, and crews checked the room with a thermal imaging camera."
