I COMPLETELY agree with Derek Moore (‘Resident’s warning over uncut hedges’, County Gazette, June 28) saying Eastwick Road chicanes are dangerous.

You can’t see the pedestrians for foliage and it’s an accident waiting to happen.

I’ve lived in this road for 40 years and never seen anything like it.

At the meeting, 25 years ago, the people of Eastwick didn’t want chicanes because they do not work.

You still get cars doing 50-60mph down through here and you never get a police camera up here.

We, the people, wanted speed humps but no, that was too easy.

But for the council to say we should maintain the foliage ourselves is a cheek.

The last financial year, every resident paid £1 a week. This year it has doubled.

25 years ago, the council said they would maintain the road. The first three years, they did, but now, nothing.

And another thing; the road is not on the winter gritting list. It should be classed as an A-road. It is a rat run all the way from Staplegrove Post Office.

Eatswick chicanes is on a slope and to touch the brake pedal on ice, you slide into a kerb or on to the pavement in to pedestrians or young children.

It’s an accident waiting to happen!
