THE Rev Fabian Wuyts had been licensed as the vicar of St James Church, Taunton, by the Bishop of Taunton, the Rt Rev Ruth Worsley.
The congregation at the service earlier this month included Taunton Deane Mayor Cllr Catherine Herbert and around 30 members of Mr Wuyts former parish in Kent.
He was recently a curate in Whitstable and led the church of St Alphrages, in Seasalter and is married to Vashti with four children.
It was presided over by the Bishop and the Archdeacon of Taunton, the Ven Simon Hull.
The vacancy at St James arose following the retirement of the Rev Tim Jones last October.
