A PERSON has been hit by a train between Taunton and Weston-super-Mare this afternoon (Tuesday, August 21).
The line has been left blocked and as of 5pm trains are thought to be delayed by up to an hour and disruption is expected until at least 7.30pm.
Great Western Railway and CrossCountry trains may be delayed, cancelled or revised.
A spokesman for CrossCountry trains said: "Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Bristol Temple Meads and Taunton.
"As all lines are currently closed between these stations, services will be delayed, cancelled or revised.
"Some trains will be able to divert via Westbury, extending journey times by up to 60 minutes.
"We anticipate disruption to journeys will continue until 7.30pm".
The Buses of Somerset has described the incident as a fatality on its Facebook page, although this is as yet unconfirmed.
The Buses of Somerset Facebook post reads: "GWR ticket acceptance is in place on Service 21 due to a closure of the Taunton to Weston Line due to a fatality on the Line."
Great Western Railway customers can use First Bus routes 21, 21A and 21C between Weston, Highbridge and Burnham, Bridgwater and Taunton.

A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: "We were called to reports of a person hit by a train on the line between Taunton and Weston-Super-Mare at 4.36pm."
