PLANS to put on a spectacular Christmas event for Minehead received a boost this week.

Minehead Town Council has agreed to pay £6,789 will Minehead BID will pay £3,000 to fund the electrical supply in The Parade, allowing for a Christmas lights switch-on event.

Speaking at Minehead Town Council on Tuesday night (August 21), Bill Howard, owner of Minehead Old Hospital, said: “After last year’s underwhelming efforts, we thought it would be a good idea to get together and see if we can do something for this year.

“So far we have a small group of people who are building partnerships across the town to help this take place.

“We are relying on fundraising within the community rather than external grants, as this way people feel more invested in the event.”

The Lights Switch-On is provisionally being planned for Friday, November 30.
