SOMERSET may not play Notts Outlaws in the Vitality Blast quarter final match at the Cooper Associates County Ground today as rainy weather could see the match postponed.

In a statement posted on Somerset County Cricket Club's website today (August 26) the club said 'every avenue' will be pursued to ensure the match goes ahead but if weather conditions do not improve the match will take place on Monday (August 27).

A spokesman for Somerset County Cricket Club, said: "Somerset are due to take on Notts Outlaws in the Vitality Blast quarter-final at the Cooper Associates County Ground this afternoon.

"With rain forecast for periods of the day we would like to make our position clear with regard to any potential alterations to the match schedule.

"Every avenue will be pursued in an effort to ensure that we get a match played today. In an ideal world we would want a 20 overs per side match.

"However, we cannot control the weather and factors like these which are beyond our control may see the match reduced in length.

"Somerset CCC assure you that we will be working with the umpires and the ECB in order to facilitate a match today.

"If no play is possible today then, in line with all major matches, we will utilise the available reserve day which is Monday August 27th.

"With any major match it is always the protocol that the reserve day will be utilised should it be required.

"This has been made clear and was stated in our match preview.

"Should the match have to take place on the reserve day then we are afraid that we would not be in a position to refund match tickets because the match will have taken place.

"It would also be extremely difficult from a logistical point of view to refund the tickets and re-sell them in such a short space of time.

"We understand that the match being played on the reserve day may make attending the fixture rather more difficult for some people and this is unfortunate for all concerned. However, cricket supporters are well aware of the major match protocol and the need for a reserve day within that procedure.

"Those who are unable to attend may wish to utilise our social media channels to facilitate the transferal of match tickets at face value. However, Somerset County Cricket Club can in no way condone any profit making or ticket touting in regard to this or any fixture.

"We hope that this has helped to clarify the situation and hope that we can complete the fixture today.

"Thank you for your continued patience and as soon as we have any information regarding a potential start time we will publicise this via the usual channels."
