WELLINGTON Flower Show was once again a hit as the town celebrated all things summery.

The flower show took place on Saturday, August 25, at the Alan Rogers Centre at Wellington School, South Street.

This year saw a 30 per cent increase in entries from last year - the highest its seen for many years.

Organisers praised the entries, despite a 'difficult' growing year due to the weather.

Sheena Page said: "Wellington Flower Show took place on Saturday and despite a difficult and unpredictable growing season, the results on show at the Alan Rogers Centre were spectacular.

"The number of entries was the highest for many years and were up by over 30 per cent on last year.

"We were thrilled by the number of new exhibitors and the support we received from various groups, in particular the photography group from the Wellington WI and members of the Taunton Floral Art Club.

"That said, we greatly value the support of many exhibitors who remain loyal to the Show and have exhibited over many years."

Presenting the prizes and cups this year was Vic Verrier, MBE, who commented on the high standard of exhibits, in particular in the vegetable section, which saw an increase in entries.

Ms Page added: "Fine weather ensured a high number of visitors and as well as viewing the items on show in the hall, visitors were able to purchase plants from Whitepost Nursery and Ford Nursery."

The Spring Flower Show will be held on April 6 at Wellington Prep School.
