PLANS are afoot to close and sell a convenience store in Wellington.

Bosses at One Stop have announced their intention to sell the High Street store due to concerns it is no longer 'viable'.

The spokesman said the decision had not been taken lightly.

He added: "From time to time, we review the viability of our stores and unfortunately we have taken the difficult decision to sell our Wellington store.

"This was not a decision that was taken lightly and our priority is to explain to colleagues what this announcement means for them and wherever possible, we will offer them alternative roles with One Stop.

"We would like to thank all our customers who have shopped in our store.”

No official closing date for the store, which also contains a Post Office, has been announced yet.

The shop chain will continue to have a store in Tonedale.
