A MAN believed to be in his 20s is fighting for his life after he was hit by a lorry in the early hours of Saturday.
Police, who sealed off the road for a time, have appealed for witnesses to the incident at about 2.50am on the A38 on the Wellington side of Rumwell, just outside Taunton.
The white Volvo goods lorry was travelling south at the time.
Police say the pedestrian was rushed to Taunton's Musgrove Park Hospital with "life-threatening head injuries".
He was later transferred to Frenchay Hospital, in Bristol, where his condition has been described as critical.
Police are keen to hear from any witnesses, who should call the road policing unit's collision investigation unit on 0845-4567000.
