THE instatement of a temporary classroom at West Somerset Community College has been approved by Somerset County Council.

At a meeting of the council's Regulation Committee on Tuesday, September 4, it was decided to give the thumbs up to the classroom, which will comprise a classroom, lobby and store.

One local resident had objected to the application because of loss of tree, notably a mature cherry tree.

As part of the proposals three trees will be removed, however, to compensate four trees will be planted along the eastern boundary of the site.

The committee report said they considered that "education provision outweighs the loss of this tree.

"Due to the existing shrubs and trees along the eastern boundary, the visual impact of this temporary unit will be minimal."

As part of the conditions, the classroom is allowed on the site for five years.
