YOUNG people in Minehead were encourage to get involved with the local community by way of an activity day.

In the event organised by police, Magna Housing Association, Minehead Town Council and the Seward Way Community Group, youngsters from across Alcombe East and West beats, were told about upcoming activities and a planned initiative called the Dream Scheme.

The scheme is aimed at rewarding young people for getting involved in their community by doing jobs such as decorating their local youth club and litter picking their estate.

Alcombe East and West Neighbourhood Beat Manager PC Steve Cutler organised the event together with Police Community Support Officer Luisa Skinner.

PC Cutler said: "The day was a great success and well supported by people across the community.

"Local community groups came together and days like this show the benefit of involving local people, not just in how their community is policed, but showing what all agencies can do."
