THE tenth anniversary of a competition which sees people give it some really welly is set to celebrated.

The World Wellington Boot Throwing Championship will take place once again on the playing fields of Court Fields School on Saturday, September 8.

The competition sees people try their arm at throwing a boot as far as possible.

Mayor of Wellington, Cllr Gary James, will open the event at noon.

Wellington Majorettes and the Wellington Silver Band will be providing entertainment alongside other live performances and a bouncy castle and face painting.

A hog roast will also be available for hungry event visitors as well as gins, other drinks, and ice cream.

Organiser, Sue White, said: "It's free entry into the event but a low charge if you're entering the competition. Medals, trophies and shields which have been sponsored by businesses in the town will be given out to the winners at 5pm.

"This year the profits from our raffle will be given to WHERE."
