THOUSANDS are expected to flock to Wellington's second annual Food Fair and Festival this weekend (September 8 and 9).

Representatives from Taunton Deane Borough Council, which has given some £70,000 in financial support over the last two years, will attend and help at the event on Saturday and Sunday.

As well as more than 60 town centre stalls and marquees, there will be a special food court with hog roast, a barbecue at Wellington Monument, presentations by local food producers and top quality chefs, a sausage trail, butchery and fish filleting demonstrations, quizzes, apple juicing and other children's entertainment, plus live music performances to add to the festive atmosphere.

And on Saturday evening there will be a special Beer and Curry Night at the Fabulous Food Tent on the Conservative Club car park, run by Wiveliscombe-based Cotleigh Brewery and Saffron Kitchen.

Deane Council leader Cllr Ross Henley said: "This is a terrific event for the town and the district, and is already proving a key element in the economic revival of Wellington and the immediate area.

"As a local authority we have taken very seriously our role in helping to promote and shape the event with local businesses, organisations and community groups. I'm sure it will be brilliantly attended and prove a huge boost to the town and local people."

Town shops and businesses are also joining in the fun laying on food, dance and other activities, and there will be tractor rides around Sheppy's Cider Farm.
