A COUNTY Gazette-backed cancer charity has reached another landmark, raising more than £800,000 since it linked up with your favourite newspaper.

Last week's total of £2,539.12 donated to Somerset Unit for Radiotherapy Equipment included £1,700 from Mark Berry, Cricket St Thomas Golf Club captain, who chose SURE as his charity of the year.

Other money given to SURE, which equips the Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, included £500 from Cynthia and Jack Law in lieu of presents for their diamond wedding celebrations at West Monkton Village Hall.

Donations of 5p coins were £30 from Smeatharpe WI; £23 from the Tuesday Badminton Club, in Monkton Heathfield; £49.85 from Maureen Ward, of Taunton; and £35 from Norman Tomkies, of Street.

Collection pots totalled £32.43 at Lizzie's Kitchen, Burnham-on-Sea; £25.42 at Hurleys Newagents, Burnham; and £6.95 from Crusty Cob Bakeries.

Lilian Cynthia Henson left £5.12 at the Beacon Centre, which handed over a further £132.45.

A total of £802,589.20 has now been raised for SURE since it linked up with the County Gazette.
