WATCHET Town Council has been shortlisted for a national award.

The authority has been recognised by the National Association of Local Councils. It is one of three shortlisted for the ‘star council’ award.

The awards aim to showcase the councils with a positive impact of the community.

Cllr Sue Baxter, chairman of NALC, said: “Each year the awards get bigger and the level of entries gets stronger. This year we were particularly pleased to see how local councils have engaged with their communities to make a positive impact. We received a record number of nominations this year and would like to congratulate this year’s finalists and thank those who entered.”

Councillor John Irven, chairman of WTC and mayor of Watchet said “We were delighted to hear that we have been selected as one of this year’s finalists, which in itself is a great endorsement of our approach and the hard work that the council and staff have been doing to engage with the community”

Results will be announced on October 30.
