EMERGENCY services were called to a school in Taunton to respond to a young person in distress.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to Heathfield Community School, School Lane, alongside the ambulance service, at around 9.30am this morning.

The young person, who is not a student at the school, was taken to hospital following the incident.

Headteacher of the Monkton Heathfield school said, Peter Hoare, said: "Parents and guardians may be aware that outside agencies were called to the school this morning to deal with a young person in distress.

"This young person is not a student of Heathfield School.

"All protocols were followed. I can confirm that there were no safeguarding concerns regarding staff or students.

"The intention of this message is to negate any rumours."

A spokesman from Avon and Somerset Police confirmed officers were called to the school for a 'concern for welfare' incident and said the young person was taken to hospital.

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service confirmed the young person was taken to Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.
