BOSSES at Travelodge said they have received hundreds of applications for roles at their new Highbridge hotel.

The new hotel 75 room hotel, which is located in Siger Drive near Isleport Business, is set to open on November 5 and will be based next to Highbridge’s new Aldi store.

Yenny Rodriguez, hotel manager at Highbridge Burnham-on-Sea Travelodge, said hundreds of applicants from across Somerset attended a recruitment day at the Princess Theatre in Burnham and she managed to hire her 25-strong team in just one day.

She said: “I am totally overwhelmed by the great response that we received on our recruitment day for the 25 jobs we had advertised.

“We had hundreds of applicants queuing throughout the day and it’s amazing that we managed to hire a full team in one day.”

“I was looking for individuals who are passionate about delivering great customer service, just like myself, and I am delighted that I now have a great team of local people in place.

“My focus now is to train my team so that we can get off to a successful start when our hotel opens in autumn, as it is going to be a very busy period in the lead up to Christmas.”

The new team is currently doing on the job training at Western Super Mare Travelodge, so that they are fully trained up to manage their hotel when it opens later this year.

The new hotel has an on-site restaurant called The Bar Café and is part of a £6 million investment by the landlord.

Yenny said she hopes the new hotel will be a success and she wants to train the new staff to become Travelodge managers in the future.

She said: “I started with Travelodge as a Bar Café Team Member and within six months of joining the company I was put forward to the in-house management development programme.

“During the following 12 months I learnt all aspects of managing a hotel and obtained supporting qualifications.

“Upon graduation I was appointed to Assistant Hotel Manager at Bournemouth Travelodge.

“A year later I continued to gain management experience as an assistant hotel manager at Poole Travelodge before moving to Taunton Travelodge as a hotel manager.

“I am passionate to develop my team members to become Travelodge hotel managers of the future.”
